The Vancouver Whitecaps are a Major League Soccer team. The Vancouver Whitecaps originally started in the North American Soccer league in 1974. The Whitecaps won the 1979 Soccer Bowl, beating the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The team folded in 1983. The team was started up again in the A league in 2001, and in 2009, got the rights for an MLS expansion team. The Vancouver Whitecaps will play their first season at Empire Fields. The Whitecaps will play their second season at BC Place in 2012.
