Group E begins with Switzerland playing against Ecuador, both teams had never played before against each other. The second match is France playing against Honduras, the French had a huge dissapointment after Franck Ribéry being unable to play in this edition of the FIFA World Cup.
Switzerland - Ecuador
Ecuador opened the score in the first half after Enner Valencia scored from heading a free kick into the net. Switzerland tied the score quickly after the second half started, as Admir Mehmedi scored in the 48th minute. Switzerland eventually took the lead, after Haris Seferović scored with just 20 seconds left remaining in injury time.

France - Honduras
Both teams looked to end the first half scoreless, but Wilson Palacios got his second yellow card because he pushed Paul Pogba in the penalty area.
Karim Benzema scored from the penalty spot, giving France a 1-0 lead with Honduras having to play with 10 men. In the second half goalline-technology was used to give France a 2-0 lead. Benzema hit the bar, but the ball went in after it hit Honduran goalkeeper Noel Valladares, thus awarding him an own goal. France got enough chances later in the game, but saves from Valladares helped Honduras by not conceding many goals. In the 72th minute, Benzema scored his second of the match after his shot from a difficult angle, giving the French a 3-0 win in their opening match.

Argentina - Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia's first match in the FIFA World Cup started horrible, after a free kick from Lionel Messi hit Sead Kolašinac's knee, leading to an own goal from him. The match wasn't very spectacular, but Messi nevertheless scored a stunning in the second half after a combination with Gonzalo Higuaín. Bosnia still managed to score in the 84th minute, as Vedad Ibišević put the ball under Sergio Romero's legs to give the Bosnians hope for another goal. The match ended in 2-1 for Argentina which gave them 3 needed points.
