The Qatar national football team represents Qatar in association football and is controlled by the Qatar Football Association, the governing body for football in Qatar. The team play their home games at Khalifa International Stadium and Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, and the latter is considered as home stadium. Félix Sánchez is the current head coach of the team.
Qatar's first participation at major tournament was at 1980 AFC Asian Cup. As of 2022, they have qualified for the Asian Cup for ten times, and won the tournament once in 2019, after eliminating the hosts United Arab Emirates in the semi-final and later beat Japan 3-1 in the final match. They have also been invited for the Copa América in 2019 and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021. In the latter tournament, the Qatari team made it into the semi-finals. In 2010, Qatar were selected as the hosts of 2022 FIFA World Cup, therefore qualified automatically to the tournament. Since they failed to qualify for the 2014 and 2018 World Cup, the 2022 tournament would be a debut for the Qatari team.
