Club career

Early career

Oscar was born on 9 September 1991 in the city of Americana, outside São Paulo. There, he joined youth side União Barbarense. He was scouted by São Paulo FC and joined their development side at 13 years of age in 2004. He made his professional debut for the São Paulo senior side on 28 August 2008, in the second leg of the first stage of the Copa Sudamerica. He played the full 90 minutes of the goalless draw with Clube Atlético Paranaense at the Arena da Baixada, but he and Juninho had their attempts saved by Vinícius in the penalty shootout, eliminating their team. His first appearance in a league match came on 13 March 2009, filling in for Jean for the final eight minutes of a 5–0 home win over Mirassol Futebol Clube in the Campeonato Paulista. That year, he also made 11 substitute appearances for the team in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
