Neil Thompson (born 2 October 1963) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. Born in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, Thompson played for Scarborough, Ipswich Town and Barnsley amongst others. Whilst at Barnsley he played in the 1997–98 Premier League with the South Yorkshire club, appearing in 3 matches as a starter. Thompson subsequently became a football coach and had spells at York City, Scarborough and Boston United as player-manager. He also worked for Leeds United Reserves team. Currently, he serves as a coach for the Sheffield Wednesday first team.
