Mumbai City FC (MMB) is an Indian professional football franchise based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, which competes in Indian Super League (ISL). The club was launched in August 2014 during the ISL's inaugural season. The team is majority owned by the City Football Group and partly owned by Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and Bimal Parekh, a chartered accountant.
Former England international Peter Reid managed the club and Fredrik Ljungberg was the marquee player for the first season. For the second season, it was announced that Nicolas Anelka will don the position of marquee player as well as manager of the club. In 2016, Diego Forlán played as the marquee player while Alexandre Guimarães took over as the new manager. For the first time Mumbai City topped the league table.
