Manchester United v Liverpool was a scheduled Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool. The match was originally scheduled to take place in the evening of Sunday 2 May 2021, but the game was postponed due to safety and security concerns and is yet to be rescheduled.
Before the scheduled kick-off time of 4:30pm GMT, a crowd of Manchester United fans gathered outside Old Trafford in protest of the club's owners, the Glazer family and their involvement in the creation of the European Super League. Despite originally being a peaceful protest, the protest got heated after the arrival of Greater Manchester Police. Some supporters also managed to storm the stadium, pushing past security, and subsequently invading the pitch. Eventually, security and police manager to diffuse the situation and cleared the stadium and the surrounding area. However, protests were also taking place outside hotels in Manchester city centre, where both teams' players were housed. In the end, the game was postponed due to security and safety concerns due to various COVID-19 breaches by protesters that subsequently put the players at risk. The game is yet to be rescheduled.
