Frankie McAvoy (born 9 July 1967) is a Scottish professional football coach and former semi-professional footballer. He is currently head coach of Scottish Premiership club Heart of Midlothian.
McAvoy was previously the head coach at EFL Championship club Preston North End.
During his playing career, McAvoy didn't play professionally. In 2003, he joined Dunfermline Athletic as an academy coach. In 2005, he took up the same role at Hamilton Academical. In 2013, after the appointment of Alex Neil as manager, McAvoy became his assistant, as well as the first-team coach. In 2015, he followed Neil to England after his appointment as manager of Norwich City, with McAvoy once again becoming first-team coach. McAvoy followed Neil once again in 2017, this time to Preston North End. In March 2021, Alex Neil was sacked as Preston manager and McAvoy took over on an interim basis. After a fairly successful interim period, on 10 May 2021, he was offered the head coach role on a permanent basis, an offer he accepted.
