The club was founded in 1919 and are nicknamed "Ševci", meaning "The Cobblers".
They took the name FC Fastav Zlín in 2012, signing a five-year sponsorship deal with firm Fastav. This replaced the sponsorship with Tescoma, therefore replacing the club's name from FC Tescoma Zlín to FC Fastav Zlín.
The club marked the start of the 2022–23 Czech First League by changing their name, signing a three-year deal with firm TRINITY BANK, replacing the former sponsorship deal with Fastav to take the new name FC Trinity Zlín. Trinity Bank ended the sponsorship early and the club was renamed to FC Zlín on 1 July 2023.
