1930 FIFA World Cup[]

1950 FIFA World Cup[]

The first time the British nations were invited in which they accepted the offer to participate after 17 years of self-imposed exile. It was agreed that the top two teams in the 1949-50 British Home Championship would qualify. The top 2 teams were England and Scotland however Scotland withdrew as they were not the champions leaving England the only representative.

England were the favourites for the tournament however after 1 – 0 to the United States and a 1 – 0 to Spain led to England being eliminated in the first round.
