The El Salvador national football team has represented El Salvador in international football since 1921. It is governed by the Federación Salvadoreña de Fútbol (English: Salvadoran Football Federation).
The Estadio Cuscatlán, also known as "El Coloso de Montserrat" and "La Catedral del Espectáculo", is the official home stadium of the El Salvador national football team. Since 2017, the national team has had a kit sponsorship contract with England-based supplier Umbro. Raúl Díaz Arce is the all-time top-scorer for the national team, with 39 goals, while Darwin Cerén has the most caps, with 89 appearances.

FIFA World Cup history[]
El Salvador first qualified for the FIFA World Cup in the 1970 edition. During the qualification process, matches against the Honduras national football team were mostly the focus of the Football war. However, they lost all their games. Their results were, 3–0 to the Belgium national football team, 4–0 to the Mexico national football team, and 2–0 to the Soviet Union national football team.
The also qualified for the 1982 FIFA World Cup, with aforementioned rivals Honduras also qualifying. Yet again, they lost all their matches. Their first game was a 10–1 loss against the Hungary national football team, in which László Kiss was the first substitute to score a hat-trick in the World Cup. They also lost 1–0 to the Belgium national football team and 2–0 to the Argentina national football team.
