Daniel Jesse Boateng (born 2 September 1992) is a footballer who plays as a defender. Boateng has previously played for Arsenal, Swindon Town, Oxford United and Hibernian.
Club career[]
Arsenal[]
Despite being Tottenham-born, Boateng joined his boyhood Arsenal in September 2003 and progressed through the ranks. On 20 July 2009, he made his reserves debut in friendly against Lincoln. He signed a professional contract with Arsenal in July 2010. He made his competitive first team debut for Arsenal in the League Cup against Bolton.
Since he began his professional career, Boateng was given the captain armband in the Arsenal's reserve.
Swindon (loan)[]
On 21 January 2012, Boateng joined Swindon Town on loan until the end of the 2011–12 Football League Two season. Boateng says he joined Swindon Town to play under manager Paolo Di Canio.
Boateng was expected to join Swindon Town back in the summer transfer window, but the move was broken down. After a month joining Swindon Town, Boateng finally made his debut for the club, making his first start, as Swindon Town win 2-1 against Hereford United on 21 February 2014. After two appearance, Boateng returned to Arsenal.
Oxford United (loan)[]
In the 2012-13 season, Boateng joined Oxford United on a 6 month loan deal on 28 August 2012. After featured on the bench for the first two games, Boateng made his debut for the club, in a 4-0 loss against Burton Albion on 15 September 2012.
Due to lack of first team opportunities, Manager Chris Wilder explains his action, suggesting Boateng need to improve and hints he could cut his loan spell early to free up funds. Just over two appearance, Boateng returned to Arsenal upon his loan spell with Oxford United expired.
Hibernian (loan)[]
On 31 January 2014, Boateng joined Scottish Premiership club Hibernian on loan. He left Hibernian at the end of the 2013–14 season.
Boateng is currently a free agent after being released by Arsenal.
