Alireza Jahanbakhsh Jirendeh (born 11 August 1993) is an Iranian professional footballer who plays as a right winger and attacking midfielder for Dutch Eredivisie club SC Heerenveen and captains the Iran national team.

In 2014 Jahanbakhsh was voted the second greatest young talent of the 2013–14 Eredivisie season. In the 2017–18 Eredivisie season, Jahanbakhsh scored 21 league goals, making him the first Asian player to become top scorer in a major European league.

Internationally, Jahanbakhsh represented Iran at the FIFA World Cup in 2014, 2018 and 2022, and the AFC Asian Cup in 2015, 2019 and 2023. He also played for the nation at both the under-20 and under-21 levels.

Club career[]

NEC Nijmegen[]

2013-2014[]

Jahanbakhsh reached a verbal agreement with NEC Nijmegen on 26 May 2013. He joined the club on 1 July 2013 officially. He made his debut against the club RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie.

Jahanbakhsh made two important goals for his club in the latest minutes of the match against Ajax to save NEC Nijmegen for automatic relegation. However the club relegated in the playoffs round.

He was voted as the runner-up greatest talent of the Eredivisie in the season 2013-2014.

2014-2015[]

This season Jahanbakhsh stayed at the club after relegating with NEC Nijmegen. He became a permanent spot in the team and has been very important in a lot matches with his goals so far. He helped the club by winning the first period title in the Eerste Divisie.

International career[]

Jahanbakhsh was called up first for the national team of Iran on 5 October 2013. He made his debut against Thailand and scored his first goal against this country in his second match. He was also called up for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He played his first match on the World Cup against Nigeria after coming as a substitute.
