On 11 June, the club announced the contract extension for midfielder and vice-captain Nicolò Barella until 2029. On 1 July, Inter bid farewell to Juan Cuadrado, Davy Klaassen, Alexis Sánchez, and Stefano Sensi as their contracts expired, as well as Emil Audero, who returned to Sampdoria after the end of his loan spell with the Nerazzurri. On 6 July, Inter announced the arrival of Polish midfielder Piotr Zieliński on a free transfer from Napoli. On 9 July, Inter signed Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martínez from Genoa for a reported fee of €13.5 million plus €2 million of bonuses. The following day, Inter officialised the arrival on a free transfer of Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi from Porto. On 7 August 2024, talented attacking midfielder Valentín Carboni joined Olympique de Marseille on a season-long loan with a reported option to buy for €36 million and a €40 million counter-option in favour of Inter. On 12 August, captain Lautaro Martínez officially renewed his contract with the club until 2029.

On 17 August 2024, Inter started their league campaign with a 2–2 away draw against Genoa, with striker Marcus Thuram scoring a brace for the Nerazzurri. On 24 August, Inter secured their first win of the season, beating Lecce 2–0 with goals from Matteo Darmian and Hakan Çalhanoğlu. On 30 August, Inter completed the transfer window by signing Argentine centre-back Tomás Palacios for a reported fee of €6.5 million plus €4.5 million of bonuses to be equally shared between Talleres de Córdoba and Independiente Rivadavia. On the same day, an own goal from Berat Djimsiti, a volley goal from Barella, and a brace from Thuram allowed Inter to obtain a clear 4–0 victory over Atalanta before the international break.
