Tuesday 17 August 2021 saw the 2021–22 season's first midweek games.
Shrewsbury Town's poor start to the season continued with a 1–0 defeat away at Portsmouth at Fratton Park. Steve Cotterill's side remained the only team in the division yet to score a league goal. The win for the home side moved them to the top of the table after match day 3.
Burton Albion's 100% record continued with a 1–0 win over Sunderland at the Pirelli Stadium.
Accrington Stanley's 1–0 win at home to Doncaster Rovers continued the misery for the visitors who sat joint-bottom of the table without a point from their first three games under Richie Wellens.
Fleetwood Town were the other team without a point so far in the campaign, they were beaten 1–0 at Hillsborough Stadium by Sheffield Wednesday.
Milton Keynes Dons defeated promotion hopefuls Charlton Athletic 2–1 at Stadium:mk, their first win of the season.
Ipswich Town were defeated 2–1 at Whaddon Road by division newbies Cheltenham Town, sitting them 19th in the table with only a single point from their first three.
A 97th-minute Paul Kalambayi own-goal rescued a point for Gillingham as they drew 1–1 with AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane.
