The 2020 Liga 1, also known as Shopee Liga 1 for sponsorship reasons, is the fourth season of Liga 1 under its current name and the 11th season of the top-flight Indonesian professional league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2008. The season started on 29 February and is scheduled to finish on 31 October 2020. Fixtures for the 2020 season was announced on 21 February 2020.

Bali United are the defending champions. Persik, Persita, and Persiraja join as the promoted teams from the 2019 Liga 2. They replace Badak Lampung, Kalteng Putra, and Semen Padang who were relegated to the 2020 Liga 2.

The pre-season transfer window is opened between 1 January and 21 March 2020 while the mid-season transfer window will be opened between 20 July and 19 August 2020.

It is currently halted, following a decision on 27 March 2020 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs (Kemenpora) and PSSI to suspend the league due to the coronavirus pandemic. The initial suspension was until the end of March, which was extended to 29 May and then indefinitely. The season will resume on 1 October 2020 and scheduled to end on 28 February 2021.

Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic[]

The season was suspended on 15 March 2020 after finishing the matchday three due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The initial suspension was until the end of March, which was then extended to 29 May. On 27 June 2020, PSSI issued a decree to continue Liga 1 starting October 2020.

On 10 July 2020, PT Liga Indonesia Baru followed up on the PSSI Decree by making several announcements. The season will be continued from the matchday four on 1 October 2020 and scheduled to end on 28 February 2021, with a note that the schedule will follow the situation of the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire match will be held without spectators in the stadium. No format changes as the league is still held in the double round-robin format. All matches will be centered on the island of Java. The team from outside Java will be based in Special Region of Yogyakarta.
