Chelsea moved to the top of the Premier League table, if only for a few hours, after a solid win at Newcastle United, their fifth straight victory in all competitions.
Brighton won at Villa Park for the first time in their history, deservedly edging out Aston Villa in a dramatic and entertaining encounter.
Tottenham Hotspur went top of the Premier League after producing a display of clinical efficiency and tactical discipline to beat Manchester City.
Bruno Fernandes' twice-taken second-half penalty was enough to give Manchester United their first Premier League victory of the season at Old Trafford over a battling West Brom outfit.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his excellent scoring form with two goals as Everton returned to winning ways in an absorbing encounter with Fulham.
Sebastien Haller's superb strike consigned winless Sheffield United to another Premier League defeat as West Ham moved into the top half of the table.
Arsenal forward Nicolas Pépé was sent off for a headbutt as Leeds' wasteful finishing cost them a Premier League victory.
Liverpool moved level on points with Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur and thwarted Leicester City's hopes of going top with an outstanding performance and victory at Anfield.
Burnley secured their first win in the Premier League this season as victory over Crystal Palace at Turf Moor moved them out of the relegation zone.
Theo Walcott said he "feels like a kid again" after scoring his first goal since rejoining Southampton in their Premier League draw at Wolves.
