The 2020–21 season was West Bromwich Albion's 143rd year in existence and their first season back in the Premier League, the top tier of English football, after two years away. They were promoted from the Championship as runners-up in the previous season.
In addition to their league schedule, the Baggies participated in the FA Cup and EFL Cup this season, being knocked out by lower-league opposition in both. The club began their EFL Cup campaign in September, but were eliminated in the third round on penalties by Championship side Brentford. Then in January they were knocked out of the FA Cup, again on penalties in the third round, by League One Blackpool. This was the first time since 2016-17 that the Baggies had failed to progress in the competition.
On 16 December 2020, West Brom confirmed head coach Slaven Bilić had left the club. The season so far had produced a league record of just one win in thirteen matches, leaving Bilić's team 19th in the table, although they had just secured a 1-1 draw with Manchester City the previous night. Sam Allardyce was confirmed as his successor later that day, signing an eighteen-month contract.
The appointment failed to change the course of the Baggies' season, and their relegation back to the Championship was confirmed on 9 May 2021 with a 3-1 loss at Arsenal. It was Allardyce's first Premier League relegation, and West Bromwich Albion's fifth (sharing the record with Norwich City). Ten days later, the club confirmed Allardyce was to leave his role at the end of the season.
