The 2019–20 season was Cardiff City 's 121st season in their existence. The club competed in the EFL Championship , having been relegated from the Premier League the previous season. They also competed in the FA Cup and EFL Cup , but were knocked out by Reading and Luton Town respectively.
After a poor start to the season which left Cardiff fourteenth in the table, manager Neil Warnock resigned on 11 November 2019. He was replaced by Neil Harris five days later, and by July (the season had been extended due to the coronavirus pandemic forcing a three-month long postponement) he had guided them to fifth place and a berth in the play-offs. However, Cardiff's season ended in a 3-1 aggregate loss to Fulham in the semi-final.
Lee Tomlin was the season's top goalscorer, netting nine times across all competitions. Cardiff's league record (excluding the play-offs) was W19 D16 L11.
